Western Colorado Health Care System Health Professions Trainees
Welcome to the VA Western Colorado Health Care System! We look forward to working with you and making your Clinical Trainee appointment a valuable experience.
The items on this page comprise the first steps needed to initiate a clinical rotation at the Western Colorado Health Care System. A completed TQCVL must be emailed to initiate all clinical requests, see details below, six weeks prior to the start date of your rotation. If you have any questions, please contact your Program Coordinator.
*NEW* TQCVL Process has changed read below carefully:
Prior to participating in training at a VA facility, each health professions trainee (HPT) must first be listed on a Trainee Qualifications and Credentials Verification Letter (TQCVL). This process has recently changed, please follow the new steps below:
Note: these steps must be completed EACH semester for all New Students seeking clinical hours at the VA.
Step 1: The affiliated Academic Program Director must provide a TQCVL to complete HPT onboarding. Copy and paste this TQCVL template onto your Program/University letterhead and complete all fields. Be sure not to alter any of the wording in this template.
Step 2: Attach the TQCVL List of Trainees. Trainees must be listed using their full, legal names, correctly spelled and the name must match two government issued identification documents. TQCVL’s without Lists or Lists without a cover TQCVL will NOT be accepted.
For additional information and instructions, reference the TQCVL Guide for Program Directors.
Have Questions? Contact the VA facility's DEO, ACOS/E or Education Leader
Step 3: Email the TQCVL, including List of Trainees to VHAGRJSTUDENTINPROCESSING@va.gov to coordinate plan for student clinical placement
Student placements are contingent upon:
- Patient acuity, census, and service resources to support clinical objectives
- Mission critical goals and strategic priorities of the Medical Center
- Availability of experienced preceptors with a degree equal or higher than the degree for which the trainee is enrolled
- Availability of approved preceptors
- Note: student rotations cannot be accommodated on Federal Holidays. Click on the appropriate year to see dates to avoid scheduling trainees at the VA.
